This stretch of Wolf Creek in Mineral County is 0.25 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV+ section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling stretch along Wolf Creek. This is a
very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out
with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Wolf Creek will make you feel great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: Wolf Creek is pretty dry commonly; the wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the duration of the summertime here at Wolf
Creek, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 70's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 30's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Wolf Creek temperatures fall to the-10's. That right there is plenty of entertaining
stuff already but it goes on, the San Juan and Jemez Mountains has it all. Going for a hike on the Windy Pass Trail is always a nice adventure. There are tremendous places to look at along the Treasure Mountain Trail; Treasure Falls is always fun to check out.
