85 Road to Deer Lodge Park Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV(V) 4.8 miles
This section of Yampa River is 4.8 miles long and is a class IV(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Yampa River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. On
this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The 85 Road to Deer Lodge Park Road stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around
here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Yampa River during the warm days of summer are in the 80's, and the overnight is somewhat chillier of course, generally in the 40's. Highs throughout the wintertime are typically in the 30's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Yampa River dip
into the 0's. Yampa River gets very little rainfall; the wettest month of the year is commonly October, that's the one that rains the most while January is typically the driest month. Horse Gulch is close to Yampa River and is certainly a magnificent place to check out.
