  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
    Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The Deerlodge Park to Split Mountain Campground section of Yampa River in Colorado is 71 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile.

Briefly about the general area:
During the summertime months at Yampa River highs are regularly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Yampa River. Around Yampa
 
River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is October; the driest of the months is January.
Starvation Valley is in close proximity to Yampa River and is a nice place, and if you haven’t been to Dinosaur National Monument, you must schedule some time for it since you're here.
