Colorado whitewater, Yampa River

Moffat county, Deerlodge Park to Split Mountain Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III(IV)     71 miles
The scenic beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Deerlodge Park to Split Mountain Campground section of Yampa River is 71 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. If you're coming from Vernal it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are a few other sections
in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so better bring your camping gear along. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular
destination.
