The scenic beauty of Litchfield County and the water flowing gracefully down Bantam River will make you feel great. The average Connecticut whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. If you're coming from Torrington it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. way this area has a large number of paddling places. Bantam River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Stoddard Road to Shepaug River stretch is the only one. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right
nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch of Bantam River in Connecticut is 5.4 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There's camping available near Bantam River. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly about the general area: One of the best things about Bantam River is its proximity to Morris Town Beach. Through the summer at Bantam River highs are frequently
in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Bantam River are in the 10's. A good deal of precipitation falls at Bantam River; during August this area sees the most rain, and the
driest month is February. Mt. Tom State Park is a pleasant place to stretch your legs a bit, and while here here do visit nearby Litchfield Town Beach.
