The natural beauty of Litchfield County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Torrington it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into
whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Connecticut are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This stretch is short so
no need to bring snacks. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The Hogback Road to Riverton stretch of Farmington River in Connecticut is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
