The put-in location is a short drive from Torrington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Connecticut scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Hogback Road to Riverton stretch of Farmington River in Connecticut is 2 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be
paddled as well. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The average Connecticut whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Some nice nature is available in American Legion State Forest. At Farmington River during
the long summer days highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are generally in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Farmington River. Farmington River is a wet place that gets a good deal of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and January is when it's the driest.
