The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Torrington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Connecticut scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Farmington River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. For all you
camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way
there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The Hogback Road to Riverton stretch of Farmington River in Litchfield County is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Hogback Road to Riverton section is just one of many. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes.

of Farmington River is American Legion State Forest. During the warm days of summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Farmington River; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in
the winter at Farmington River temperatures dip to the 10's. The high level of rainfall makes Farmington River a quite wet place; August is the wettest month with most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
