Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Connecticut is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Connecticut and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. There's camping available near Hammonasset River. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The starting point is
not too far from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. This is the only paddling stretch
along Hammonasset River. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch of Hammonasset River is 2 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Time spent at East Rive Beach in the vicinity of Hammonasset River is always pleasant, and Chatfield Hollow State Park is a brilliant place to have a look at.
