The wonderful Connecticut scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Torrington, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling
spots. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Connecticut tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The
nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The below Falls Village Hydro Plant stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. This stretch of Housatonic River in Connecticut is 0.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This is an extremely short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
Briefly about the general area: Wildcat Hollow is a great site to go to nearby; you
have to stop by The Cove when you're here. This river is a wonderful place to visit. Housatonic River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August; February on the other hand is the driest. If you're here at Housatonic River, checking out Lookout
