This stretch of Housatonic River in Connecticut is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The put-in is not too far from Torrington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of Connecticut and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking
or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are some good stretches
to paddle in this river system, the below Falls Village Hydro Plant stretch is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is a very short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The campgrounds here at Housatonic River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.
