The below Falls Village Hydro Plant section of Housatonic River is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The put-in location is a short drive from Torrington, as you can see on the road map further down. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Connecticut tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting
here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The beautiful scenery of Connecticut and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This is a very short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Wildcat Hollow is a nice
location to stop at close by, and The Cove is in the vicinity and always good to stop by. Housatonic River regularly gets lots of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is mostly August, that's the one that rains the most while February is the month with the least amount
of precipitation. At Housatonic River through the summertime months highs are in the 80's; the night is somewhat chillier of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Housatonic River are in the 0's. At this
river you will always have a good time. Lookout Point is an exciting site to stop by while at Housatonic River, and a short tour to Great Falls is always worthwhile.
