The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Connecticut are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The scenic beauty of Connecticut and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Falls Village Hydro to Kent section of Housatonic River in Litchfield County is 22.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The put-in is not too far from Torrington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road
map further down the page. The campgrounds here at Housatonic River are pretty good. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions
for lots of people. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Falls Village Hydro to Kent section is one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here.
