Connecticut whitewater - Quinebaug River, Windham County Windham county, Below Route 6 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     0.5 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Connecticut you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The wonderful Connecticut scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This section of Quinebaug River is 0.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. You can pitch a tent     or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Below Route 6 section is the only paddling section along Quinebaug River. This is an extremely short section so no need to bring snacks. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Willimantic, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: During the warmest time of the year here at Quinebaug River, high temperatures usually get into the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows through the   wintertime for Quinebaug River tend to be in the 10's. Nashawaug is close by and always pleasant to have a look at; there are plenty of people from Willimantic here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Quinebaug River a wet place; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest.
