The Above Sandy Brook section of Still River in Litchfield County is 0.1 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Still River than the Above Sandy Brook section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good
spots for that around here. This is an extremely short section so no need to bring snacks. The beautiful scenery of Litchfield County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Torrington it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Algonquin State Forest is a forest near Still River that you can go to. Still River
sees pretty high levels of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Still River reach the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 30's, and overnight lows at Still River during the winter ordinarily drop into the 10's.
