The South Dover NY to Gaylordsville Ct section of Tenmile is 4.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions     for lots of people. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The put-in location is a short drive from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The campgrounds here at Tenmile are pretty good. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The scenic beauty of Litchfield County and the water flowing gracefully down Tenmile beats anything. The South Dover NY to Gaylordsville Ct stretch is the only paddling stretch along Tenmile. Briefly about the general area: At Tenmile during the summertime highs are in the   80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while Tenmile night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's.
