The Highway 3 to Potomac stretch of Anacostia River is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 3 to Potomac stretch is one of them. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to
spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: A spree to nearby Tete Du Pont is very relaxing. For the duration of the summertime months here at Anacostia River, high temperatures usually get into
the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Anacostia River temperatures descend to the 20's. The amount of rainfall that falls at Anacostia River is close to the national average; throughout the month of May you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest.
