This section of Rock Creek in n/a County is 4 miles long and is a class II-III+(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The nature scenery of n/a County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are
a few others too. The put-in is not too far from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about
the general area: The warmest time of the year at Rock Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, mostly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Rock Creek tend to be in the 20's. If you want to hit the beach, Bathing Beach is in close proximity, and nearby you find the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail which is a great hiking trail. Rock Creek is close to Piney Branch Valley which is undeniably worth a visit It's always perfect to go to
Jumpin' Jack Spring. From a rainfall point of view Rock Creek is a pretty common place; the month with most of the rain is May while February is ordinarily the driest month. This river is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Valley Trail is always a fine adventure, and lots of folks from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria come here.
