The beautiful scenery of District of Columbia and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, as you can see on the road map further down. The Above Military Road to Pierce Mill Dam section of Rock Creek is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III+(V) section by American Whitewater. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure
to keep you coming back for more. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Jumpin' Jack Spring while you're here at Rock Creek, and hiking along
the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail is perfect fun. If you're here, you might as well check out Piney Branch Valley, and you can have a nice hiking adventure along the Valley Trail. High temperatures at Rock Creek throughout the summertime are in the 80's, and the nighttime is a little chillier of course, frequently in the 60's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Rock Creek. Rock Creek gets a normal amount of yearly rain; the wettest month of the year is generally May, that's the one that
rains the most; the driest month of the year is February. This river is so wonderful. Lots of people from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria come to Rock Creek, and on a perfect day it's a fine idea to spend the day at Bathing Beach.
