  If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section of Alcovy River in Barrow/ Walton/ Newton County is 21 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The scenic beauty of Georgia and the cool fresh water beats anything. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. A bit
    of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the GA Route 81 to US 278 section is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
For the period of the months of summer here at Alcovy River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 50's; night lows through the winter for Alcovy River tend to be in the 30's.
