This stretch of Alcovy River in Barrow/ Walton/ Newton County is 21 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in     Georgia tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the GA Route 81 to US 278 section is one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
