Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The beautiful scenery of Dawson County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Goshen Church Road to Highway 53 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Creek is 9.75 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before
you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Amicalola Creek. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are typically in the 40's, and overnight lows at Amicalola
Creek through the wintertime ordinarily dip into the 20's. Amicalola Creek commonly gets much rain; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month of the year is October.
