The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The put-in is not too far from Gainesville, as you can see on the road map further down. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section of Amicalola Creek in Dawson County is 9.75 miles long and is a class II-III section     of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.
