the High Shoals - Highway 186 to Price Mill stretch is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Athens-Clarke County, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: A cool spot to explore close to Apalachee River is Gun Point Bend. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Apalachee River while night lows are regularly in the 60's.
Through the winter highs are in the 50's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Apalachee River temperatures drop to the 30's. Apalachee River gets a good deal of water; during the month of March you get the most rain around here; the driest of the months is September.
