The scenic beauty of Georgia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The Pot Leaf Shoals Apalachee park and play spot section of Apalachee River in Oconee County is 0.1 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The put-in location is a short drive
from Athens-Clarke County, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This is an extremely short stretch so it's not like you're gonna
spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

in the 60's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 50's while Apalachee River nighttime low temperatures through the winter are in the 30's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Apalachee River a wet location; during the month of March you get the most rain around here; the driest month of the year is September.
