Rabun
county,
Highway 28 to Overflow Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V(V+) 2 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Georgia are harder than the national norm, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The beautiful scenery of Rabun County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Big Creek is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V(V+) section. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There are no other stretches to paddle along Big Creek than the Highway
28 to Overflow Creek stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. No need to look hard for hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a bit of a short
stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike along the Three Forks Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood, and nearby you stumble on Sandy Gap which is a wonderful place to check out. During the months of summer highs
here at Big Creek get into the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. Highs all through the wintertime are ordinarily in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Big Creek during the winter generally sink into the 20's. Big Creek typically gets
lots of rain; during March this area sees the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While you're here at Big Creek you can take a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail.
