The wonderful Rabun County scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The put-in is not too far from Seneca, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This stretch of Big Creek is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This is a somewhat short section
so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The river winds through the
Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. Big Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway 28 to Overflow Creek section is the only one. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: That right there is a lot of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the Blue Ridge Mountains has it all. While you're here at Big Creek you can take a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail. For the
duration of the months of summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Big Creek. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while Big Creek nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's. Sandy Gap
is near Big Creek and is a fine location, and going for a hike along the Three Forks Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Big Creek usually gets a good deal of rain; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is July.
