Fulton
county,
Grimes Bridge Road to Vickery Creek Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III(V+) 2 miles
No real put in spot because the water is only about 6 inches high. It's not deep enough to move. It's literally a stagnant cesspool now. Be afraid. 7-6-2008 Says Ron S.
The Grimes Bridge Road to Vickery Creek Park stretch of Big Creek in Georgia is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III(V+) section of whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Fulton County and the water flowing gracefully
down Big Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Grimes Bridge Road to Vickery Creek Park section is the only paddling
section along Big Creek. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Big Creek are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
