  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Macon, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Big Sandy Creek in Georgia is 0.51 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling stretch along Big Sandy Creek. This is a very short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the water flowing
    gracefully down Big Sandy Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're
not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
During the summertime at Big Sandy Creek highs are commonly in the 80's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 60's. All through the winter highs are typically in the 50's with temperatures at Big Sandy Creek dipping down into the 30's during winter nights.
