I've been going here over a year and barely enough to tube. 7-6-2008 Says The starting location is a short drive from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours     on the river in one stretch. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The natural beauty of Georgia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The Powers Ferry to West Pallisades/Paces Mill stretch of Chattahoochee River in Georgia is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II+(III) section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Thornton Shoals is a good location to spend some time at. Summertime at   Chattahoochee River comes with high temperatures in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Chattahoochee River temperatures fall to the 20's. Chattahoochee River mostly gets a large amount of precipitation; most of the rain falls throughout March, and the driest of the months is October.
