CLASS II(III) 0.2 miles
Dried up. Rain water ditch. Don't bother. 7-6-2008 Says Ron S.
The Upstream of Atlanta Road stretch of Chattahoochee River is 0.2 miles long and is a class II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Georgia are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This section is very short so you'd better be prepared
to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Upstream of Atlanta Road section is one of them. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, as you can see on the road map further
down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
