This stretch of Chattooga River is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V(V+) section of whitewater. The wonderful Rabun/Oconee County scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Bull Pen Bridge to Burrells Ford Bridge section is just one of many. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away
from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience.
The put-in location is a short drive from Seneca, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average Georgia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Chattooga River a pretty wet place; throughout the month
of March you get the most rain around here; the driest month of the year is April. It's always tremendous to pop by Spoonauger Falls; there are splendid places to discover along the Ellicott Rock Trail. This river has it all. Put some time aside to spend at Kings Creek Falls
since you're here at Chattooga River, and don't leave Chattooga River without first going for a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Chattooga River. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs
in the 40's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Chattooga River fall into the 20's. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
