  This stretch of Chattooga River in Rabun GA / Oconee SC County is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Seneca, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Highway 28 Putin to Earl's Ford section is just one of many. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whitewater
    rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The campgrounds here at Chattooga River are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of Rabun GA / Oconee SC County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great.

Briefly about the general area:
Chattooga River is a rather wet place mostly with a lot of rain; March is the wettest month with most rain; July is the month with the
 
least moisture. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're here, you might as well have a look at Big Shoals; why not take a refreshing hike along the Three Forks Trail.
At this river you will always have a good time. During the summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Chattooga River. Throughout the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Chattooga River. Put some time aside to spend at Big Shoals while you're here at Chattooga River, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Chattooga River; Burrells Ford Trail is a pleasant local trail.
