The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The starting point is not too far from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or
kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This stretch of Chattooga River is 13 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III+(IV) section
by American Whitewater. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Earls Ford to Route 76 Bridge stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Chattooga Trail. During the months of summer here at Chattooga River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 50's. During
the winter highs are generally in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at Chattooga River temperatures sink to the 20's. The high level of rain makes Chattooga River a reasonably wet spot; most of the rain falls through March while July is frequently the driest month.
