This section of Chattooga River in Rabun GA / Oconee SC County is 5.2 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Georgia you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Chattooga River make the trip here worthwhile. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and spending some
quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Toccoa, as you can see on the road map further down. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Route 76 Bridge to Tugaloo Lake Boat Ramp stretch is just
one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

lows are ordinarily in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Chattooga River. Chattooga River typically gets a good deal of precipitation; March is the month that gets the most rain, and October meanwhile is the driest month.
