Chattooga River - West Fork is not far at all from Highlands, and sites like Oconee State Park are perfect to go to. So much cool stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains, not sufficient time. There's great hiking along the Three Forks Trail; you could always discover Pigpen Gap. This is a really good river. Good hiking is available along the Burrells Ford Trail, and you can hit the slopes at Scaly Mountain in the neighborhood.
