county,
Turners Corner to Grindle Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III+ 11.4 miles
This was not a great run, maybe because the water was low, and some guy was telling us it was illegal for us to be on ''his'' river. Check out riparian law dude! The waterway belongs to the public and cannot be obstructed according to federal law- Anyway, the trip included lots of dragging over rocks. Maybe the water was low. We went July 15th 2009, the 11 mile trip which should have taken a day took us the day. However we never made it to the end. And according to Scottie Davis, our rescuer, we would have been spending the night somewhere and then taking
another day to get to the end. Well, my bad, kind of jumped into that without a lot of planning, but it was a beautiful ride. Definitely would do again if the river were a little higher. Peace-evagael Says Evagael
The Turners Corner to Grindle Bridge stretch of Chestatee
River in Georgia is 11.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III+ section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Getting
some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Gainesville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are
a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The
Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.
