The Grindle Falls Road to Copper Mine stretch of Chestatee River is 2.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The put-in location is a short drive from Gainesville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. The nearby hotels
are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This
is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The scenic beauty of Georgia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer highs here at Chestatee River get into the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 60's.
Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 40's, and night lows all through the winter for Chestatee River tend to be in the 20's. Chestatee River is a reasonably wet place generally with a good deal of precipitation; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
