This stretch of Chestatee River in Georgia is 32 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Gainesville, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
nearby. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The nature scenery of Georgia and the water flowing
gracefully down Chestatee River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Coppermine to Lake Lanier stretch is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Chestatee River during the warm days of summer are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures
descend down into the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Chestatee River. The high level of rain makes Chestatee River a relatively wet site; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
