The scenic beauty of Gilmer County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This stretch of Coosawattee River is 11 miles long and has been determined by American
Whitewater to be a class I-II section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that many
of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Coosawattee River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the GA Route 5 to Carter's Lake
section is the only one.
