This stretch of Dog River in Georgia is 7 miles long and is a class III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The put-in location is a short drive from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There are no other sections to paddle along Dog River than the GA Route 5 to Dog River Reservoir section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Dog River are pretty good. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: At Dog River throughout the months of summer highs are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's while Dog River nighttime low
temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Dog River a quite wet place; the wettest month of the year is generally March, that's the one that rains the most while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
