Georgia whitewater - Etowah River, Blue Ridge Mountains, Lumpkin County
Lumpkin
county,
Above Hightower Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV+ 2 miles
The starting point is not too far from Gainesville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The natural beauty of Lumpkin County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The Above Hightower Road section of Etowah River in Georgia is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+ section of whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV
at a nearby campground. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Above Hightower Road section is one of them. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that a large number
of rivers in this state are not easy. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
