CLASS V+ 3.65 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Summerville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The average Georgia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. If you're a camper you can camp
at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
This is the only paddling stretch along Gulf Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch of Gulf Creek in Georgia is 3.65 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: During the summertime months at Gulf Creek temperatures are generally in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Highs all through the winter are usually in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight
here at Gulf Creek. All the water falling down from the sky makes Gulf Creek a wet site; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains the most while October is generally the driest month. A short visit to Gunn Spring is always worthwhile, and
McKaig Gulf is in the vicinity, and is a magnificent location. Forester Spring is always fun to check out, and don't leave Gulf Creek without first checking out Johnson Crook. This river is a great place to visit.
