This stretch of Gulf Creek in Dade County is 3.65 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Dade County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're coming from Summerville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down
the page. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is the only paddling stretch along
Gulf Creek. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The average Georgia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: While staying at Gulf Creek you could always look at McKaig Gulf, and a short journey to Forester Spring is always worthwhile. Gulf Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
This river is a great place to visit. You simply should take a look at Johnson Crook if you're here at Gulf Creek, and a journey to Gulf Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Gunn Spring. Through the summer at Gulf Creek highs are typically in the 80's. Once the sun
is down it plunges down to the 60's. Highs all through the winter are usually in the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Gulf Creek dip into the 20's.
