Union
county,
US 19 to Nottelly River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
The put-in is not too far from Gainesville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Helton Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the US 19 to Nottelly River section is the only one. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise and just being out on the river for
a while are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of Union County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: And if that's not enough there's loads more enjoyable stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Levelland Cove is in the neighborhood of Helton Creek and is a perfect site to take a look at; hiking along the Coosa Backcountry Trail is glorious fun. Don't leave Helton Creek
without first paying a visit to Helton Creek Falls, and do take a hike on the DeSoto Falls Trail. Coming to this river is always a good idea. If you would like a little side tour, try Nance Payne Cove It's always splendid to have a look at Nottely Falls. All the water falling
down from the sky makes Helton Creek a wet place; throughout the month of March you get the most rain around here, and October is the month with the least moisture. Through the summer months here at Helton Creek, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's, and all through
summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Helton Creek.
