The put-in is not too far from Gainesville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There are no other stretches to paddle along
Helton Creek than the US 19 to Nottelly River stretch. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains
and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The scenic beauty of Georgia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great.
Briefly about the general area: This is such a wonderful river. Helton Creek Falls is an inspiring place to stop at while here, and if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Coosa Backcountry Trail. While you're here at Helton Creek you can take a hike along the DeSoto Falls Trail;
the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Nottely Falls. Summertime highs at Helton Creek commonly tend to be in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are regularly in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at
Helton Creek temperatures drop to the 20's. And that's not all there is to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Levelland Cove is not far from Helton Creek at all, and Nance Payne Cove is undeniably a good place to stop by. Helton Creek usually gets a lot of rain; most of the rain falls during March while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
