The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This stretch of Hiwassee River and High Shoals Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+(V+) section. The nature scenery of Georgia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day
trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Hiwassee River and High Shoals Creek are pretty good. If you're coming from Cornelia it's not a long
drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. The High Shoals Creek Trailhead to US 17 section is the only paddling section along Hiwassee River and High Shoals Creek.
