Rabun
county,
FS Road 86B bridge to Three Forks of West Fork Chattooga section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V+ 1.9 miles
This stretch of Holcombe Creek is 1.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd
better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The FS Road 86B
bridge to Three Forks of West Fork Chattooga stretch is the only paddling stretch along Holcombe Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: Owl Gap is a great spot to look at; going for a hike along the Three Forks Trail will let you absorb the
natural beauty of this area. Now, you may assume that's a heap but there's even more cool stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If the weather is fine here at Holcombe Creek, you can go for a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail. During the summer at Holcombe Creek temperatures
are frequently in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Holcombe Creek temperatures sink to the 20's. Holcombe Creek is a wet place that gets a great deal of rain; March is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is July.
