The natural beauty of Georgia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Dalton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if
you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This
section of Holly Creek in Georgia is 3.21 miles long and has been rated as a class IV(V) section by American Whitewater. This is the only paddling stretch along Holly Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: A good deal of rain falls at Holly Creek; March is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is October. The Emery Creek Trail is a great hiking trail in the vicinity of Holly Creek. There
is a good hiking trail close to Holly Creek called the Songbird Trail, and Mulberry Gap is close by, and is a glorious place. High temperatures at Holly Creek during the warm days of summer are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Holly Creek temperatures sink to the 20's.
