Murray
county,
Along Mill Creek Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-V+ 3 miles
The scenic beauty of Georgia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting point is not too far from Dalton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Georgia are harder than the national norm, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is the only paddling section along Mill Creek. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Along Mill Creek
Road section of Mill Creek in Murray County is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V+ section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Mill Creek without first going for a hike along the Grassy Mountain Tower Trail, and a good place to go to is Hickey Gap. There's tremendous hiking along the Songbird Trail. For the period of the months of summer, highs frequently are
in the 80's at Mill Creek. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are generally in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Mill Creek dip into the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Mill Creek a wet place; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
