Along Mill Creek Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-V+ 3 miles
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Georgia you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The starting point is not too far from Dalton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The Along Mill Creek Road section of Mill Creek is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V+ section of whitewater.
This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Along Mill Creek Road stretch is the only paddling stretch along Mill Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers
for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Mill Creek are pretty good. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well stop by Hickey Gap, and the Songbird Trail offers hiking at its best. All through the summertime months here at Mill Creek, high temperatures
usually get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Mill Creek. There's good hiking along the Grassy Mountain Tower Trail. Mill Creek ordinarily gets lots of rain; all through March this area sees the most rain while October is generally the driest month.
