Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The put-in is not too far from Cornelia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Rabun County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. The Wildcat Road to Lake Burton stretch is the only paddling stretch along Moccasin Creek. For
all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your
car. The Wildcat Road to Lake Burton section of Moccasin Creek in Rabun County is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV(V+) section of whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip.

comes with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Moccasin Creek dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights. Near Moccasin Creek you discover tremendous places like Fuller Gap. Moccasin Creek is a rather wet place regularly with a large amount of precipitation; most of the rain falls during March, and October is the month with the least moisture.
