If you're coming from Cornelia it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Moccasin Creek in Rabun County is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that
rivers here are less forgiving. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an
afternoon. There's camping available near Moccasin Creek. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Moccasin Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Wildcat Road to Lake Burton stretch is the only one. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer months at Moccasin Creek highs are commonly in
the 80's while night lows are generally in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Moccasin Creek temperatures drop to the 20's. Fuller Gap is a magnificent spot to look at. Moccasin Creek is a reasonably wet place usually with a large amount of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is March; October on the other hand is the driest.
