This section of Moccasin Creek in Georgia is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Rabun County and the water flowing gracefully down Moccasin Creek make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Cornelia it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe
for beginners. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are no other sections to paddle along Moccasin Creek than the Wildcat Road to Lake Burton section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. If
you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Moccasin Creek is a wet site that gets a good deal of rainfall; throughout March this area sees
the most rain, and October is when it's the driest. All through the long summer days at Moccasin Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's while night lows are ordinarily in the 60's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows at Moccasin Creek throughout the winter mostly plunge into the 20's. Near Moccasin Creek you find Fuller Gap which is a perfect spot to go to.
