This section of Mud Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The starting point is not too far from Cornelia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon
trip. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are no other stretches to paddle along Mud Creek than the Road to Chatahoochee stretch. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with
plenty of places for that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Georgia and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warmest time of the year here at Mud Creek, high temperatures generally reach the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. Through the wintertime highs are ordinarily
in the 40's; after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Mud Creek sink into the 20's. A great site right next door to Mud Creek is Nacoochee Valley. Mud Creek commonly gets a large amount of rainfall; throughout March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is October.
