This section of Potato Creek in Georgia is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Thomaston, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
have a lot of people coming here. The Highway 74 to Flint River section is the only paddling section along Potato Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the cool
fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip.
Briefly about the general area: At Potato Creek during the summer highs are in the 90's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Potato Creek. Potato Creek gets a good deal of water; March is when you get the most rain here, and October on the other hand is the driest.
