Georgia whitewater - Snake River, Carroll County

Carroll county, Banning Mill Road to Johns Mill section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III+     3 miles
The Banning Mill Road to Johns Mill section of Snake River in Carroll County is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III+ section. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Snake River have people coming here. The put-in is not too far from LaGrange, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Georgia you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. There
are no other stretches to paddle along Snake River than the Banning Mill Road to Johns Mill stretch. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a pretty short section
so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that.
