The scenic beauty of Georgia and the water flowing gracefully down Stekoa Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Stekoa Creek in Rabun County is 6.75 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Toccoa, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not
suitable for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Timber Bluff Road off US Route 76 to Chattooga River section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
