The nature scenery of Rabun County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Timber Bluff Road off US Route 76 to Chattooga River stretch of Stekoa Creek in Georgia is 6.75 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. The starting point is not too far from Toccoa, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not
too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the days of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at Stekoa
Creek. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while Stekoa Creek night low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's. There is a good hiking trail near Stekoa Creek called the Bartram
Trail. Stekoa Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
