The GA Highway 136 to Carters Lake Reservoir stretch of Talking Rock Creek in Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County is 18 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Calhoun, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The campgrounds here at Talking Rock Creek are pretty good. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to
get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The
natural beauty of Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here.
