The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Calhoun, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend
some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make
reservations in advance you're all set. The GA Highway 5 in Blaine to GA Highway 136 stretch of Talking Rock Creek is 6.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here.
