The starting point is not too far from Calhoun, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Talking Rock Creek in Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The beautiful scenery of Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping people there
are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the GA Highway 5 in Blaine to GA Highway 136 section is one of them. This section
is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
