The County Road 5976 to Old Copper Mine Road stretch of Tesnatee Creek in Georgia is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The wonderful White/Lumpkin County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Tesnatee Creek beats anything. The campgrounds here at Tesnatee Creek are pretty good. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is
wonderful. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are no other stretches to paddle along Tesnatee Creek than the County Road 5976 to Old Copper Mine Road stretch. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
this is an area with plenty of places for that. The starting location is a short drive from Gainesville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm days of summer highs here at Tesnatee Creek get into the 80's while night lows
are regularly in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Tesnatee Creek temperatures descend to the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Tesnatee Creek a quite wet spot; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is generally the driest month.
