The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are no other stretches to paddle along Toccoa River than the     Deep Hole Recreation Area to Sandy Bottoms stretch. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. The Deep Hole Recreation Area to Sandy Bottoms stretch of Toccoa River in Fannin County is 13.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Doogan Hole is always worthwhile, and there is a nice hiking trail close by called the Benton Mackaye Trail. All through the warmest time of the year highs here at Toccoa   River reach the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Toccoa River temperatures fall to the 20's. Now, you may believe that's plenty but there's even more cool stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Toccoa River gets lots of water; March is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is October.
