The wonderful Fannin County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Toccoa River attract people from near and far. This stretch of Toccoa River in Georgia is 13.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Toccoa River doesn't have
a lot of paddling stretches, the Deep Hole Recreation Area to Sandy Bottoms stretch is the only one. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: A short trip to Doogan Hole is always worthwhile, and going for a hike on the Benton Mackaye Trail is always a great adventure. All through the summertime months at Toccoa River temperatures are frequently in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's.
The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Toccoa River. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the Blue Ridge Mountains has to offer. All the water falling down from the sky makes Toccoa River a wet site; March is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is October.
