Carroll
county,
Whooping Creek Road to Highway section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 7 miles
There is no way to float a boat in this creek as it is only ankle deep 90% of the way. I have lived on this creek my entire life and have barely been able to find a spotdeep enough to swim in most years. It is however a great place to hike and camp. I dont know much about the adjacent property owners but in 29 years have never been bothered hiking the section between Clem-Lowell road and Hwy 5 (the section you are referring to).The section on the opposite side of hwy 5 is owned by Inland Paper and posted. There are a few property owners on shilo church
road that will allow you passage to the water. I have floated a canoe to the river on this section after months of rain, but in general it is also too shallow. There are some deep holes in this section of the creek that offer great bream and bass fishing. The fishing is best closer
to the river and it is not uncommon to catch 7# striped bass swimming up from the river looking for food. A gob of nightcawlers or a small rooster tail work excellent for all species. It is a beautiful stream and will not dissappoint for quiet and solitude, but not worth the hassle for kayaking. Wait till summer and bring an innertube and a pair of cutt-offs instead. Please remember; respect the property owners and PLEASE clean up your trash. have fun! Says Don Zenefski
This stretch of Whooping Creek is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
as a class I-III section. The starting point is not too far from LaGrange, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers
here are not suitable for beginners. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The scenic beauty of Carroll
County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This is the only paddling stretch along Whooping Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip.
