The starting point is not too far from Gainesville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The US 19 to Chestatee River section of Yahoola Creek is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Georgia are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy
as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Lumpkin County and the water flowing gracefully down Yahoola Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. No need to look hard for hotels, but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the days of summer highs here at Yahoola Creek reach the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's, and during
the dark hours in the winter at Yahoola Creek temperatures descend to the 20's. Yahoola Creek is a wet place that gets much rainfall; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
